Our overall growth centre

DANCE

Dance is a powerful ally for developing many of the attributes of a growing child. Dance helps children mature physically, emotionally, socially, and cognitively.

At our OGC children will enjoy the opportunity to express their emotions and become aware of themselves and others through creative movement.

LANGUAGE ART

Language development is a critical part of a child’s overall development.

It supports children’s ability to communicate, and express and understand feelings. It also supports thinking and problem-solving, and developing and maintaining relationships. Learning to understand, use and enjoy language is the critical first step in literacy, and the basis for learning to read and write.

GROSS MOTOR ACTIVITY

Gross motor skills are important to enable children to perform every day functions, such as walking, running, climbing, catching, throwing and hitting a ball with a bat. However, these are crucial for everyday self care skills, and it is extremely important to incorporate activities throughout the day that focus on the development of these physical skills.

FINE MOTOR ACTIVITY

Fine motor skills involve the use of the smaller muscle of the hands, commonly in activities like using pencils, scissors, construction with Lego, doing up buttons and opening lunch boxes.

A child`s hands need to develop dexterity and strength. We can help this process by encouraging children to play, explore and interact with a variety of items.

MATH & LOGIC

There is a certain symmetrical harmony that comes from understanding how patterns bring a natural order to our lives. Patterns help children learn sequencing and to make predictions which leads to mathematical skills, logic structure in algebra, and to establishing order in life.

STORY TELLING

The initial years matter the most for a child, when it is trying to make sense of the world around. At this stage, stories make learning easy and fun.

Stories definitely add to the word list of kids, especially toddlers. However, beyond vocabulary, stories largely help develop their language skills.

By storytelling we give them a chance to create their own world of imagination. They start building upon the pictures they see in the book, and the sounds and tones they hear from the storyteller.

YOGA

Children derive enormous benefits from yoga. Physically, it enhances their flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. In addition, their concentration and sense of calmness and relaxation improves. Doing yoga, children exercise, play, connect more deeply with the inner self, and develop an intimate relationship with the natural world that surrounds them.

ART & CRAFT

Arts and crafts are important for several different reasons. Simple tasks such as using a pair of scissors or holding a paintbrush helps enhance fine motor skills. Arts and crafts are also a great time to help your child learn things like how to hold a pencil correctly. Art also helps children develop mentally, socially, and emotionally. Most important perhaps, kids feel good while they are creating, art helps boost self-confidence. And children who feel able to experiment and to make mistakes feel free to invent new ways of thinking, which extends well beyond the craft room.

ZUMBA

It’s a well-known fact that fitness is an essential part of children’s health. Zumba, which literally means “moving quickly and having fun” is the perfect way to incorporate exercise into kids’ lives in a fun, easy way with multiple personal and social benefits.

ROLE PLAY

When children do role plays, they naturally become someone or something else. Role play stimulates their imagination and enhances their social development, encourages friendship through cooperation, listening and turn taking. Therefore, role play is a really vital activity for our children.
